Just five?? I need a list of 25 to make that list. My favorites change every week. So here's the five of my favorite albums list that more or less first got me hooked on ambient music. Technically the first piece of music that got me hooked was Pink Floyd's "Welcome to the Machine" from Wish You Were Here. In no particular order:

Klaus Schultze - Timewind
Steve Hillage - Rainbow Dome Music
Harold Budd & Brian Eno - The Plateaux of Mirror
Vangelis - Beauborg
David Bowie - Low

I dont remember the album name but artist was Bram stadhouders (http://www.bramstadhouders.nl/), Jim black (http://www.bramstadhouders.nl/) and Sidsel Endresen (http://www.bramstadhouders.nl/). It was a CD. It is the best ambient music till now according to me. :)
